How to Secure a Minecraft Account After Buying

Delivery is not ownership until you change the password and recovery methods. This is the Microsoft-side hardening sequence, in order.

A delivered alt is still running on someone else's leftover security info until you replace it. Play later. Lock the Microsoft account first.

This is the hardening sequence. For the broader claim workflow (private window, order ID, when to open a ticket), use How to Claim a Minecraft Alt Safely.

0. Do not do this on a dirty machine

Microsoft's compromised-account guidance starts with the device. If the PC already has stealers or a typed-password logger, a new password lasts until the next login. Scan first, then change credentials.

1. Sign in once, slowly

Use the delivered Microsoft email and password. Read every challenge. If Microsoft asks for a code, inbox, or authenticator that was not in the delivery, stop. Guessing burns recovery attempts and can lock the account before support can replace it.

alts.cool deliveries that include a recovery inbox put that mail on the account page. Use that inbox. Do not ask random people to "check it for you."

2. Change the password

Use a unique password. Do not reuse your main Microsoft password, Gmail password, or Discord password.

Microsoft account password and security info live on the Microsoft account, not in the Minecraft launcher. Change them at the account portal, then confirm you can sign in again with the new password before you close the old note.

3. Take over security info

Add your email, authenticator app, or security key. Then remove methods you do not control, after the new method works.

Do not strip the last recovery method while you still depend on it. Locking yourself out is not securing the account.

4. Confirm Minecraft still launches

Open the Java launcher with the same Microsoft account. Confirm the username you were sold. If the listing included a cape or rank, check that next — after the password change, not before. A cape screenshot taken on the seller's session is not your proof.

5. Keep the order trail

Save the order ID and the account page link. Replacement windows are short and need a first-login recording if something is wrong. Details are on the guarantee.

If Microsoft challenges you during this sequence, contact support instead of retrying passwords in a loop.

What this does not fix

Securing Microsoft does not undo a Hypixel punishment and does not move a cape onto another account. It only stops the previous holder from walking back in.

If you bought a non-full-access listing from some other shop, you may not be able to complete these steps at all. That is the NFA/SFA problem: NFA vs SFA vs MFA.
