Cherry Blossom Cape: The 2023 Mob Vote Cape Explained

The Cherry Blossom cape is a pink, cherry-leaf patterned Minecraft cape that went to players who took part in the 2023 Mob Vote. It is official, it works on both Java and Bedrock, and you cannot earn it anymore. The vote it came from was the last one Mojang ever ran.
This guide covers how the cape was handed out, why Java and Bedrock used different rules, what it looks like, and how to check whether an account really has it. If you want the wider picture of every cape first, start with how to get a cape in Minecraft Java.
What the Cherry Blossom cape is
It is an account cosmetic, granted by Mojang to a Microsoft account. Like every official cape, it changes nothing about gameplay, and it cannot be moved from one account to another.
The name depends on where you look:
- Java Edition: "Cherry Blossom Cape". The cape's internal API name is now just "Cherry Blossom", which is also how NameMC lists it.
- Bedrock Edition: "Cherry Cape", in the Capes section of the Character Creator, with Legendary rarity.
How the cape was obtained: the 2023 Mob Vote
The cape was tied to Minecraft Live 2023, which streamed on October 15, 2023. As in earlier years, the show included a mob vote, this time between the crab, the armadillo, and the penguin.
Voting opened at 17:00 UTC on October 13, 2023 and closed at 17:15 UTC on October 15, 2023, shortly after the show started. Mojang offered three ways to vote:
- The live event server, which ran on Bedrock Edition only.
- The Minecraft Launcher.
- The Minecraft.net website.
All three required signing in with a Microsoft account, and each person got one vote. On the event server you could pull the levers as often as you liked, but only your final choice counted.
The event server was a mini-game map built with Gamemode One. Xbox and PlayStation players could join it without an online subscription, and it stayed open until 19:00 UTC on October 16, 2023.
The armadillo won. It went on to ship in the Armored Paws drop in April 2024, together with wolf armor.
Java vs Bedrock: who actually got it
This is where the Cherry Blossom cape gets confusing. According to the Minecraft Wiki, the two editions used different conditions:
| Edition | What earned the cape | What did not |
| ------- | --------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------ |
| Java | Voting through Minecraft.net, the launcher, or the event server | Joining the event server without voting |
| Bedrock | Joining the 2023 Mob Vote event server | Voting on the website or launcher without joining the server |
So two people who both "took part" could end up with different results. Someone who only voted in the launcher may have the cape on Java but not in the Bedrock Character Creator. Someone who walked around the event server without voting may have it on Bedrock but not on Java.
If you play Java, the Java side is the one that matters. For more on how the two editions share an account, see Java vs Bedrock Minecraft accounts.
When the cape was granted
The Bedrock cape went live with the event server on October 13, 2023, and players received it when they joined.
Java took longer. The cape was not originally announced for Java, and the Minecraft Wiki records that it started rolling out to Java accounts that had voted on October 26, 2023, with no announcement from Mojang. The internal name was shortened from "Cherry Blossom Cape" to "Cherry Blossom" a few days later, on October 30, 2023.
The wiki notes that the Cherry Blossom cape and the later MCC 15th Year cape were the first two capes tied to Bedrock event servers, and both reached Java only after their events were over.
Design
The cape is covered in the pink leaves of Minecraft's cherry trees, matching the cherry grove biome. Official capes also restyle your elytra. With this one equipped, the elytra shows a four-tone gradient that runs from white at the bottom to pink at the top.
Can you still get the Cherry Blossom cape?
No. The vote closed on October 15, 2023, the event server shut down the next day, and the cape came from taking part in them. There is no code to redeem and no store listing.
There will not be a repeat either. In September 2024, Mojang announced it was changing the Minecraft Live format and retiring the mob vote. That makes the 2023 vote the last mob vote, so no new chance to earn this cape is coming from that route.
The only way to have one today is to use an account that earned it in October 2023. Treat anyone offering to "add" the cape to your account, or selling a code for it, as a scam. Capes cannot be transferred between accounts.
How to verify the cape on an account
In the Minecraft Launcher. Open Minecraft: Java Edition, go to the Skins tab, and edit a skin. The cape picker lists the capes that account owns. This is the most reliable check, and it is the one to run after you have taken over an account.
On Minecraft.net. Capes can also be equipped from the Java profile page on the Minecraft website, which is another place to see what the account owns.
On Bedrock. Open the Character Creator and look under Capes for the "Cherry Cape". Remember the different earning rules: it may be missing on Bedrock even when the Java cape is present.
On NameMC. NameMC is useful for checking a username's public cape history before you buy, but it has limits. The public Mojang API only shows the cape a player is wearing right now. NameMC records a cape only when someone looks up the profile while the cape is equipped, and players can hide capes from their NameMC page. A missing cape on NameMC does not prove the account lacks it, and NameMC's cape counts are lower bounds, not totals.
OptiFine and client capes are not the same thing. A pink cape you saw in a modded client could be a mod cape that only users of that mod can see. The official Cherry Blossom cape shows in the vanilla launcher's cape picker. If it is not there, the account does not have it.
Buying an account with the Cherry Blossom cape
Because the cape cannot be earned again, the only way to get one now is to buy an account that already has it. A few practical points:
- Check the Java side specifically. Ask the seller to equip it, then check that the cape shows on the profile. After delivery, confirm it in the launcher's cape picker.
- Match the access level to the price. A cape is only worth what your control of the account is worth. An account with full access to its Microsoft login is the one you can actually keep.
- Secure it right away. Change the password and recovery details as soon as you take over. How to secure a Minecraft account after buying covers the order to do it in.
- Ignore cape-only offers. You cannot buy the cape on its own, so any listing that claims to sell just the cape is not legitimate.
At alts.cool, caped accounts are sold as whole accounts with the cape already on them. At time of writing, a Cherry Blossom caped account is listed at $10.99. The shop does not sell NFA or SFA accounts.
If you are comparing it with other capes on the market, Rare Minecraft Capes in 2026 covers what makes some capes harder to find than others.
FAQ
Is the Cherry Blossom cape the same as the Cherry Cape?
Yes. Java calls it the Cherry Blossom Cape (API name "Cherry Blossom"), and Bedrock calls it the Cherry Cape. It is the same cape, but the two editions had different earning rules.
Did everyone who voted in the 2023 Mob Vote get the cape?
On Java, voting through Minecraft.net, the launcher, or the event server was enough. On Bedrock, you had to join the event server, and voting elsewhere did not count. One account can therefore have the cape on one edition but not the other.
Will Mojang bring the Cherry Blossom cape back?
There is nothing to suggest it. The cape depended on taking part in a vote that ended in October 2023, and Mojang retired the mob vote in September 2024.
Will other players see the Cherry Blossom cape?
Official capes are part of your Minecraft profile, so other players on Java see the cape you have equipped. Mod capes are different and only appear to users of the same mod.
