The Purple Heart and Follower's capes are the two "watch a stream" capes from Minecraft's 15th anniversary in May 2024. The Purple Heart Cape came from Twitch and the Follower's Cape came from TikTok. Both were handed out as codes, both reached Java Edition a few weeks later, and both promotions have long since ended.

They show up often in caped account listings and are easy to mix up with later stream capes. This guide covers how each was earned, what they look like, how to tell them apart from the Home, Menace, and Builder capes, and what to check before you pay. Details were checked in October 2026.

The 15th anniversary stream promotions

Mojang celebrated the 15th anniversary with "15 Days of Minecraft": daily free Character Creator items, a sale, and two streaming promotions. Both capes were announced on May 15, 2024, and the Day 4 article on May 18 gave the full details.

Purple Heart Cape (Twitch)

Window: May 15 to May 31, 2024.
Requirement: watch at least 15 minutes of any Minecraft content on Twitch.
Delivery: Mojang ran it as a Twitch Drop. The reward was a code you redeemed at minecraft.net/redeem.
Side reward: subscribing to or gifting a sub to a Minecraft streamer unlocked the Glitch Mask, a Character Creator head item, not a cape.

Follower's Cape (TikTok)

Window: May 18 to June 18, 2024.
Requirement: tune in to a Minecraft live stream on TikTok where the creator had the reward enabled. Minecraft.net said you had to comment "Minecraft" in the stream to get the code. The Minecraft Wiki notes the exact steps varied by region, and in some regions you had to watch for a while instead.
Delivery: an in-game code, redeemed at minecraft.net/redeem.
Side reward: a Diamond Helmet frame for your TikTok profile picture, not a Minecraft cosmetic.

Minecraft.net called it a "TikTok-themed cape"; in game it is the Follower's Cape. Neither promotion worked where Twitch, TikTok, or their reward programs were unavailable.

How the codes became capes on Java

Both capes went to Bedrock Edition first. Minecraft.net said they were "available for Bedrock Edition now, and will be in Java Edition by July 8." The Minecraft Wiki records both capes rolling out to eligible Java players on July 1, 2024.

There was a redemption deadline too: Mojang's announcements said to redeem codes by June 30. The Minecraft Wiki notes that leftover codes for both capes have still redeemed as recently as 2026. More on what that means below.

Once either cape is on an account, it behaves like any promotional cape: equip it from the Skins tab in the Java launcher, and your elytra takes on its design. See how to get a cape in Minecraft Java for the full process and a list of every public cape.

What the Purple Heart and Follower's capes look like

Purple Heart Cape. Mostly white, with a purple heart and streaks in the middle, purple triangles filling the two bottom corners, and a purple band across the top. The colors match Twitch's purple.

Follower's Cape. Dark, with a white creeper face in the middle and a glitchy, split-color effect that echoes the TikTok logo. Blue and red stripes run down the sides as a border.

Purple Heart and Follower's vs Home, Menace, and Builder

These five are all stream capes, so listings sometimes lump them together. They come from three separate promotions:

| ------------ | ---------------- | ------------------------------------------ | ---------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------- |

Two things to watch for:

Era. Purple Heart and Follower's are 2024 anniversary capes. Home and Menace promoted A Minecraft Movie in spring 2025. Builder came with the 2026 Minecraft Movie Build Challenge.
Platform pairs. Purple Heart and Home are both Twitch capes; Follower's and Menace are both TikTok capes. A listing that just says "the Twitch cape" or "the TikTok cape" is ambiguous, so ask which one.

Can you still get either cape?

Not through the promotions. The Twitch window closed on May 31, 2024 and the TikTok window on June 18, 2024, and capes cannot be moved between accounts.

That leaves leftover codes or an account that already has the cape. Even if old codes reportedly still work, you cannot check an unredeemed code before paying; you find out it is dead or used afterwards. Later promotions such as the Builder Cape also state that capes are non-transferable and that Microsoft can remove capes it believes were redeemed through fraud or abuse. On an account, the cape is already attached, so you can verify it first.

How rare are they?

Not very, compared with MINECON or Migrator capes. These were free promotions. At the time of writing, NameMC lists roughly 508,000 profiles with the Purple Heart Cape and about 480,000 with the Follower's Cape, and it only counts profiles it has seen. The Minecraft Wiki suggests Follower's codes were scarcer because TikTok is unavailable in many countries, but the counts are close.

So either cape is a nice extra on an account, not a collector's piece, and should not carry rare-cape pricing. For capes that actually are rare, see rare Minecraft capes in 2026.

How to verify a Purple Heart or Follower's cape

Before paying:

Get the exact cape name. "Purple Heart" or "Follower's", not "stream cape" or "Twitch cape".
Check the username on NameMC. NameMC profiles show official capes it has seen on that account. Compare against the official design above. If the cape is missing, ask why.
Ask for a live check, not an old screenshot. The seller can equip the cape so it shows on the NameMC profile or in game.
Rule out mod capes. OptiFine, Lunar, and other client capes are not official Minecraft capes and only show for users of that client.

After you take over the account:

Open the Java launcher, go to Skins, and edit your skin. The cape picker shows every cape the profile owns.
Secure the account straight away: change the password, update the recovery details, and turn on two-step verification. See how to secure a Minecraft account after buying.

Buying considerations

Access level matters more than the cape. A cape is worthless if the original owner can recover the account. Check what kind of access you are getting before paying extra for a cosmetic.
One cape, one account. You cannot move the cape to your main later, so buy the account you plan to play on.

On our caped accounts page, the Purple Heart and Followers listings are $9.99 and $12.99 at time of writing. Like every caped listing in the shop, you are buying the whole account, not a cape transfer.

FAQ

Can I still earn the Purple Heart Cape?

No. It came from a Twitch promotion that ran May 15 to 31, 2024, and that promotion has not returned.

Is the Follower's Cape the same as the TikTok cape?

Yes, for the 2024 promotion. Minecraft.net called it a TikTok-themed cape, and in game it is called the Follower's Cape. The Menace Cape from 2025 was also a TikTok cape, so check which one a listing means.

Can a seller move a Purple Heart or Follower's cape to my account?

No. Capes stay on the account that redeemed them. Anyone offering a cape transfer is either selling an unredeemed code or misleading you.
