MCC 15th Year Cape Explained: Event, Design, and Value

The MCC 15th Year Cape is the red cape with a gold crown and a large white "15" on it. It came from a single event: the MCC x Minecraft 15th Anniversary Party, a two-week Bedrock Edition server that Mojang and Noxcrew ran in the summer of 2024. Players who finished all 15 of the event's challenges earned it, and it was later added to Java Edition.
The event is over, so the cape cannot be earned anymore. Below: how the event worked, how to tell it apart from the 15th Anniversary Cape, and what to check on an account that has one.
Details were checked in October 2026.
What MCC is
MCC stands for MC Championship, a Minecraft tournament run by Noxcrew and creator Scott Major (Smajor1995) since 2019. Each event puts content creators into 10 teams of four, competing across minigames built for the tournament.
On May 27, 2024, day 13 of Mojang's "15 Days of Minecraft" anniversary celebration, Minecraft.net announced that Minecraft was officially partnering with MCC for the first time. The partnership had two parts:
- The Ender Cup, a special MCC tournament themed around 15 years of Minecraft, streamed on July 27, 2024 with 40 creators.
- The MCC Party, a two-week Bedrock Edition event where regular players could try MCC-style games themselves.
The cape came from the MCC Party. You did not have to watch or play in the Ender Cup.
The MCC x Minecraft 15th Anniversary Party
Minecraft.net published the details on July 16, 2024. The server opened on July 22, 2024 at 10am PST and closed on August 4, 2024 at 3pm PST (August 5 at 12am CET). It was only reachable from a button on the Bedrock Edition main screen, and console players needed their platform's online subscription.
The map was a party village with four MCC-inspired minigames: Ace Race (an obstacle course with boost pads and elytra sections), Grid Runners (timed rooms with a different task in each, originally a Minecon Earth 2018 map), Sands of Time (a PvE dungeon run), and Meltdown (defeat zombies while the room melts). Games paid out coins for an in-event shop.
The 15 challenges
Minecraft.net says you had to complete 15 challenges to unlock the cape, one of which was solving the event's mystery. The Minecraft Wiki's event page lists them:
- Ten team challenges, one per MCC team (Red Rabbits, Orange Ocelots, Yellow Yaks, Lime Llamas, Green Geckos, Cyan Coyotes, Aqua Axolotls, Blue Bats, Purple Pandas, Pink Parrots). Each asked you to wear that team's beanie and hit a target in a minigame, such as running over 100 speed boosts in Ace Race.
- Four minigame challenges, one for completing or surviving each game.
- The Mystery Cave challenge. For the first seven days, a new picture clue appeared in a cave in the lobby. You had to work out what each clue meant and do it in the right place, such as waving on a large crown or setting off a firework at the top of a mountain.
Each completed challenge unlocked a Character Creator item, such as a team head or an emote. Finishing all 15 unlocked the cape. Because the last mystery clue was revealed on July 28, 2024, the cape could not be finished before then. That left about a week before the server closed.
How the cape reached Java Edition
The July 16 announcement described the cape as a Character Creator item from a Bedrock event. It did not mention Java. According to the Minecraft Wiki, the cape went to Bedrock first and was added to Java Edition after the event ended. The wiki points out that the Cherry Blossom Cape had the same history. Those were the first two capes tied to event servers, and later event capes were announced for both editions from the start.
Today the cape counts as a cross-platform cape. On Java its API name is "MCC 15th Year". On Bedrock it shows as the MC Championship Cape with Legendary rarity. For how promotional capes move between editions in general, and a list of every public cape, see our guide on how to get a cape in Minecraft Java.
Design
The Minecraft Wiki describes the design as a red background with a golden crown, a large white "15", and gold trim along the top and bottom. Like any official cape, it also changes the look of your elytra.
MCC 15th Year Cape vs 15th Anniversary Cape
These two get mixed up constantly, and listings sometimes get it wrong.
| | MCC 15th Year Cape | 15th Anniversary Cape |
| ------ | ---------------------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------- |
| Source | Finish 15 challenges on the MCC Party Bedrock server | Claimed on Minecraft.net during the anniversary celebration |
| When | July 22 – August 4, 2024 | Starting May 17, 2024 |
| Effort | Play all four minigames and solve seven puzzles | Claim it from a Minecraft.net page |
| Look | Red, gold crown, white "15" | Green, with a creeper face |
If a listing just says "15th cape," ask which one it means.
Can you still get the MCC 15th Year Cape?
No. The server closed on August 4, 2024. The Minecraft Wiki notes that capes cannot be obtained after their promotions end and cannot be transferred between accounts.
There was also never a code for this cape. It was granted for finishing the challenges, not redeemed at minecraft.net/redeem. Anyone selling an "MCC cape code" is selling something that never existed.
How rare is it?
It is limited, but it is not one of the rarest capes. When we checked NameMC in October 2026, its MCC 15th Year page listed about 130,000 profiles. NameMC only counts profiles it has seen, so the real total is probably higher. For comparison, the Minecraft Wiki estimates around 27,000 MINECON capes exist. For which capes are actually scarce, see Rare Minecraft Capes in 2026.
How to verify the cape on an account
Do not rely on a cropped screenshot. Check it in a way that ties the cape to a specific account.
Before you pay:
- Get the account's current username or UUID and look it up on NameMC. NameMC shows capes it has seen on that profile. A cape the owner never wore publicly may not show up, so a missing entry is not proof either way.
- Ask the seller to equip the MCC 15th Year Cape. A public Minecraft profile only shows the cape that is currently equipped. Owned capes that are not equipped are not visible publicly.
- Make sure it is the red cape with the crown, not the 15th Anniversary Cape.
After you have access:
- In the Minecraft Launcher, open Minecraft: Java Edition, go to the Skins tab, and edit a skin. The cape list shows every cape the account owns.
- You can also check the capes on the account's Java profile page on Minecraft.net.
- Equip it and join a world in third person to confirm it renders.
Use the UUID where you can, because usernames can change. Minecraft UUIDs explained covers how to find one.
Buying considerations
You are buying an account that has the cape, so the account details matter as much as the cosmetic.
- Access level. A cape is only worth something if you can keep the account. Know whether you are getting full access to the Microsoft account, including the email and password.
- Correct name. The listing should name the cape exactly. "MCC 15th Year" and "MC Championship Cape" are the same cape. "15th Anniversary" is not.
- Secure it right away. Change the password, review security info, and remove sessions you do not recognize. The steps are in how to secure a Minecraft account after buying.
- Be careful with private sellers. Capes cannot be moved between accounts, so a "cape transfer" offer is a red flag.
If you want one, alts.cool lists caped accounts, with the MCC 15th Year Cape account at $14.99 at time of writing. The shop does not sell NFA or SFA accounts. Whoever you buy from, run the checks above before and after you pay.
FAQ
Is the MCC 15th Year Cape the same as the MC Championship Cape?
Yes. Minecraft.net and Bedrock call it the MC Championship Cape. On Java its API name is "MCC 15th Year", which is the name NameMC and the Minecraft Wiki use.
Did you need Bedrock Edition to earn it?
Yes. The event server could only be joined from Bedrock Edition. The cape was later added to Java Edition for players who earned it.
Can the cape come back in a future event?
Treat it as gone. The Minecraft Wiki notes that capes cannot be obtained after their promotions end, and the MCC Party server closed in August 2024.
